Republic day is celebrated in many countries. Every republic has its own republic day.
India got its Independence from the British Government on 15 August 1947, and soon after the independence it had to face the first Indian Pakistan war for the Kashmir.
Side by side the work on the construction of the constitution of India was under its way, for which the constitution assembly was formed. On 26 Nov the constitution was ready and it was adopted, it took 2 years 11 months and 18 days. All the 308 members of the assembly signed the two copies of the constitution on 24 January 1950 and on 26th January 1950 it became the supreme law of the sovereign India.
Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar is known as the prime architect of the Indian constitution because he was the chairman of the assembly during its construction. There were other members in the assembly like Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Pt. Jawarlal Nehru etc.
Constitution of India is the longest constitution of any democratic country in the world. It is hand written in a beautiful hand writing. Since 26 January 1950 , 26th January in India is celebrated as the Republic day.
